About the fair
Neftegaz was held for the first time in 1978 and took place every two years until 2016, thereafter annually. The main focus is on plants and equipment for oil and gas production, transport and processing, valves, pumps, compressors, pipelines, apparatus and components for plant construction as well as measurement and control technology. The fair is supported by all important Russian industry institutions, the Moscow Chamber of Industry and the Ministry of Energy.
Due to the importance of the oil & gas market, another oil & gas technology fair, MIOGE, was established in the odd years, organised by the private fair organiser REED exhibitions - this is also supported by the Ministry of Energy. From 2017, however, both fairs switched to an annual rhythm and seek open confrontation. Thanks to strong Russian institutional support, NEFTEGAZ has finally asserted itself as the leading event in the market. Before the pandemic, NEFTEGAZ regularly had 600 - 700 exhibitors, including about 60 from Germany (incl. local branches of German machinery manufacturers). In 2021, the number of exhibitors dropped to 449 due to the pandemic, 92 of them from abroad. As many as 19 companies from Germany took part. MIOGE, on the other hand, has clearly lost in size after 2017 and is hardly visited by international exhibitors any more.
German participation and European exhibitors
Since 2010, the Federal Republic of Germany has participated at Neftegaz with a joint stand of German companies (before that, only at MIOGE). In the years 2016 to 2019, federally funded joint stands were cancelled for political reasons. In 2021, the German Federal Participation counted 12 companies that were supported by local staff.
Due to the current political situation, the BMWK has cancelled all federal participations in Russia for the year 2022. Exhibiting companies can withdraw free of charge. Participation prices already paid should be refunded. Up-to-date information on the Ukraine-war is also available on the VDMA info portal set up for this purpose.
