Edge computing in mechanical and plant engineering
The edge computing principle has become massively more important for the digitalization of industry in recent years. Real-time-capable IoT applications and the increasing use of artificial intelligence in machines require top performance in terms of data transmission capacity and computing power, with minimum latency and maximum resource efficiency. Added to this are issues of data sovereignty and data protection as well as the increasing merging of IT and OT as further drivers of the growing demand for intelligent edge solutions. Edge computing does not replace cloud computing, but complements it as a local link. At the VDMA Austria's all-day exchange of experiences on June 3, 2025 at MAPLAN, we will discuss the latest developments in the field of edge computing with well-known technology companies, who will also present us with specific edge use cases.

You can expect a technically excellent and very intensive event with presentations by industry experts from Autonoma, Beckhoff, Cancom, Danube Dynamics, Hoerbiger, Phoenix Contact, Rittal and TTTech Industrial Automation.
The edge application scenarios and use cases presented include virtualization and hybrid cloud edge solutions, edge controllers and edge data centers, real-time monitoring and predictive maintenance, machine learning and agentic AI as well as other practical examples from the mechanical engineering and manufacturing industries.
You will also be able to enjoy an exclusive factory tour at our host MAPLAN. MAPLAN GmbH is a leading manufacturer of elastomer injection molding machines and an expert in the semi-automatic and fully automatic production of rubber and silicone products. Founded in 1972, the company is headquartered in Kottingbrunn, Lower Austria, and has additional production plants in Slovakia and India. The company headquarters was completely rebuilt in 2016 as a greenfield project and impresses with its modern design and production process based on lean management principles.
This event is organized for VDMA members and is free of charge for them. The number of participants is limited and a maximum of two people per company can register.
We look forward to your participation!
