The country contributes around one fifth of global income. For the local mechanical engineering industry, the USA is the largest export market outside the EU and at the same time the world's largest investment location with a further upward trend. According to a member survey, VDMA companies currently see the country as the world's most attractive investment location. In addition to its technological readiness, the United States has extensive raw material deposits and energy sources of its own. The economic and financial system is characterized by a high level of dynamism, entrepreneurial spirit and legal security.

Time and again, groundbreaking innovations come out of the USA. This is due not only to a strong start-up culture, but also to numerous top universities and world-class scientific institutions. While the (industrial) economic power used to be concentrated primarily on the east and west coasts and around the Great Lakes, in the course of the last few years numerous southern states in particular have been able to record enormous investments for themselves. However, the country as a whole is still characterized by great regional differences and inequalities in terms of economic strength.

Despite all the propagated and practiced entrepreneurial freedom, there are always large government programs to stimulate the economy, most recently the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) under the Biden administration. Not least thanks to such measures and the general market potential, there are enormous local sales opportunities for Austrian and Bavarian mechanical engineering companies. We would like to take a closer look at these opportunities from a current perspective.
