From 01.08.2025, new essential requirements for protection against cyber security risks, protection of personal data and fraud will apply under the Delegated Regulation on Article 3 (3) (d,e,f) of the Radio Equipment Directive. This affects radio equipment that can communicate independently via the internet, regardless of whether it communicates directly or via other devices.
The EN 18031-1 /2/3 series developed by the CEN/CENELEC Joint Technical Committee JTC13/WG8 has been formally approved by 100% of the national standardization bodies:
- Part 1: Internet connected radio equipment
- Part2 : Internet connected radio equipment processing data
- Part3: Internet connected radio equipment processing virtual money or monetary value
However, the evaluation of the three parts by the HAS consultant was negative and argues for a reformulation of some parts of the standards.
What comes next?
The European Commission must make a decision on how to proceed:
Whether and to what extent the standards will be cited in the Official Journal of the EU.
If the standards are not listed in the Official Journal of the EU (OJEU) by 01.08.2025 - therefore no harmonized standards hEN - the conformity of the products must be confirmed by a notified body until they are listed.
Due to the short time until the deadline, this event aims to provide clarity for manufacturers of radio equipment - including combined machines.
Following the presentation, there will be time for questions and an exchange of experiences with the speaker and other participants.
about the VDMA Wireless Communications for Machines
The Wireless Communications for Machines (AG WCM) working group provides a cross-industry platform for companies seeking to integrate wireless communication solutions into their machines, plants and production systems. This is achieved through enthusiastic cooperation and knowledge transfer between all relevant players along the value chain.
More than 100 organizations have joined the AG WCM since its foundation in March 2021. Become part of this network and get involved:
- Benchmarking in the definition of requirements and use cases, technology selection and holistic integration of communication solutions in the mechanical engineering ecosystem
- Expansion of the stakeholder network of the value chain
- Formulation of policy requirements
- Collaboration with relevant organizations and decision-makers
