Interoperability in mechanical and plant engineering has become significantly more important in recent years. Back in 2021, the VDMA published a study on interoperability in mechanical and plant engineering, which found that more than half of the companies for which interoperable interfaces are relevant attach high to very high importance to them. Of these companies, 90 percent stated that they had already implemented OPC UA as an interface or were planning to do so in the future. Three years after the first edition, the VDMA has decided to publish a new edition of the study. The current study provides key insights into the requirements and needs for interoperable interfaces from a company perspective. It shows which use cases can be realized through these interfaces and how the resulting data should be used.
