The aim is to answer the question of what effect a product, process or service should have on the customer and what price the customer is prepared to pay for this effect. Over-engineering, for example, can be prevented in this way. The idea that the customer does not actually need the product, but rather its function, offers new possible solutions and the basis for innovation and competitiveness, even and especially in times of crisis like today.
