The Mechanical Engineering Standards Committee (NAM) department (FB), which is supported by the VDMA SIS trade association, is the industry's point of contact for standardization matters and is responsible for national standardization work and participation at European (CEN) and international (ISO) level.
The focus is on the development of standards in the field of burglary and fire resistance products for securing valuables. The standardised products include, among others, high-security locks, data rooms, secure storage units, ATMs, biometrics and distributed systems. The VDMA Section Security Systems holds several standardisation secretariats, which means that important topics can be quickly incorporated into standardisation work at European level.
The technical work of the experts is accompanied from the start of the project through the provision of a draft (for public participation) to the publication of a standard by members of the department who have appropriate product knowledge, in compliance with the standardization regulations. In doing so, they support the experts participating in the national, European and international committees so that they can focus on the specific technical issues.
The national committee work and the support (mirror body work, SpA) of European and international standardization projects take place nationally in the following working committees (AA) and working groups (AK) of the department.
Participation in European and international standardization work takes place through participation in subcommittees (SC), working groups (WG) and, where appropriate, ad hoc groups (AHG) of the following technical committees (TC):
• CEN/TC 263 "Secure storage of cash, valuables and data media"
• ISO/TC 332 "Security Equipment for financial and commercial organizations"
There, the experts and representatives nominated by the national body have the opportunity, among other things, to significantly influence the work program of the respective committee, taking into account national interests, and to actively participate in the technical content of standardization projects.
