Uniform, machine and manufacturer-independent symbolism The symbols and displays on machines with comparable activities are sometimes fundamentally different. In view of the shortage of skilled workers, however, few machine operators today operate several different types of machines from different manufacturers. A standardization of essential operating elements, based on ISO 7000, would be advantageous for the user. The aim is to develop standards for the structures, processes and symbols for the operation of mobile machines. For this purpose, the structures, processes and symbols are examined on the basis of three widely used machine types (rollers, wheel loaders, road pavers) and the greatest possible uniformity of recognition and operation on an almost uniform display is developed.
