The subject of the event is the latest VDMA study on the platform economy, which looks in particular at the needs of mechanical engineering end customers. A practical example from Kampf Schneid- und Wickeltechnik GmbH & Co. KG shows what successful implementation can look like.

Even though the digitalization of the product and service portfolio of mechanical and plant engineering companies has received a further boost as a result of the pandemic, there is still great potential. The digitization of the industry requires a significant rethinking on the part of mechanical and plant engineering companies - also with regard to their own business model. It is no longer just a matter of building machines and systems with the greatest possible technical finesse, but also of creating the greatest possible added value for the customer with new services.

Digital platforms can play a decisive role in the development of digital solutions. It is therefore important to acquire the relevant know-how and find the appropriate place for your own company within the platform economy. It may also be necessary to go new ways - such as entering into cooperations with competitors.

What can participants expect from the exchange of experiences? The one-and-a-half-hour event will present and discuss the key findings of the platform study "Customer Centricity as an Opportunity for Digital Breakthrough". The study was produced in cooperation between the VDMA and McKinsey & Company. It will focus in particular on what the end customer industries want from mechanical engineering in terms of digital platforms and value-added services. In addition to an assessment of where the mechanical and plant engineering industry stands today on the subject of digital platforms and value-added services, general and end-customer-specific recommendations for action are given. In addition, a practical report from Kampf Schneid- und Wickeltechnik will show how a digital platform can be successfully implemented, also with the involvement of partners.

The event is aimed at specialists and managers from the areas of digitalization, IT, purchasing and business development.
