The OGU Oil & Gas Uzbekistan in Tashkent has become increasingly important in the years before the Corona crisis.  A special focus of the fair is on the processing of gas and oil and petrochemicals. In 2019, 236 exhibitors from 53 countries exhibited at the fair. A large proportion of the 9,837 visitors were from the trade,

So far, 211 oil and gas deposits have been discovered in Uzbekistan, including 108 gas and gas condensate deposits and 103 oil and oil condensate deposits. More than 50 per cent of these deposits are currently being used for industrial purposes and another 35 per cent are being prepared for exploration. However, not only domestic raw materials are processed in Uzbekistan, but increasingly also oil from Russia and Kazakhstan.

Next to China, Russia is Uzbekistan's most important trading partner. However, Russia's importance is increasingly declining. In 2022, Russia is only responsible for 22 per cent of imports and Uzbekistan exports only 12 per cent of its goods to Russia. The political drift began even before the Russia-Ukraine-war.

Since 2017, Uzbekistan has been seeking international economic cooperation. The need for investment runs through all sectors of the commercial economy and the agricultural sector, as well as the expansion of infrastructure. The aim is to prevent supply bottlenecks in the country, but also to boost exports to Central Asia.

In the oil and gas sector, the largest company in this field, O'zbekneftgaz, would like to invest two billion US dollars in 2022 with its foreign partners, and another 2.2 billion in the following year in the exploration and development of deposits, gas refining and oil processing.
