Many mechanical engineering companies expect turnover growth again in 2021
After a disappointing year 2020, the majority of mechanical engineering companies are confident that they will achieve nominal turnover increases again 2021.

Orders remain on a downward trend
The sharp decline in incoming orders in the mechanical and plant engineering sector continued in May, as expected. Orders fell by 28 percent in real terms compared with the previous year.

After 13 years, Germany is taking over the EU Council Presidency again. What is needed now is a clear focus: creating a coordinated crisis mechanism, protecting the internal market and setting the course for an open trade policy.
Fuel cell will change the vehicle market
From 2030 onwards, the fuel cell will be represented with a significant share in passenger cars, commercial vehicles and mobile machines. A turnover of 11 billion euros for fuel cell components in passenger cars alone is possible in Europe in 2040.
VDMA: "Training bonus only helps to a very limited extent".
According to VDMA training expert Dr. Jörg Friedrich, the Federal Government's training bonus neglects the training efforts of larger medium-sized companies. Nevertheless, he is confident: "The mechanical engineering industry will continue to provide training in large numbers in any case.

In 2016, the fuel cell industry in Germany achieved a turnover of around EUR 100 million from fuel cell heating devices and power supply systems. Following a lateral movement the previous year, the economic outlook of the VDMA Fuel Cells working group forecasts a growth of 90 percent for the current year based on an industrial survey. Manufacturers can be very optimistic about 2017.

In the fourth quarter of 2016, order bookings in the German machine tool industry fell by four per cent compared to the preceding year’s equivalent period. Both exports and domestic orders showed a roughly equal decline. For 2016 as a whole, the rise came to seven per cent, with orders from abroad up by ten per cent, while domestic orders ended up at plus/minus zero.

The German machine tool industry is in an optimistic mood as 2017 gets under way. “For the current year, we are anticipating significant growth in production output of three per cent,” says Dr. Heinz-Jürgen Prokop, Chairman of the VDW (German Machine Tool Builders’ Association), speaking at the organisation’s annual press conference in Frankfurt am Main.
