General Information on the Brazilian Market Nach-oben

Brazil has a strong domestic market with approximately 190 million consumers and a relatively young, free-spending and fashion-conscious population. Major sporting events such as the FIFA world cup in 2014 and the Olympic Games in 2016 are casting their shadow.

According to gtai (German Trade and Invest information of the Federal Ministry of Economics and technology) the Brazilian state and the private economy will invest approximately 40 billion US $ in the infrastructure. For the Olympic Games gtai expects another investment of up to 13 billion US $.

For decades, Brazil has been an important market for suppliers of textile technologies. According to the study “Brazil textile 2008”, Brazil counted 4,473 textile manufacturers (2,500 among them knitting plants) in 2007. 47 % of the textile production is made in the south east and 31 % in the south, where the two symposia will be held.

Brazil
is the sixth biggest producer of textiles and garment worldwide, but these are mainly sold inside the country. The Brazilian Government and ABIT have initiated the “Brazilian Textile Sector Exports Strategic Program (Texbrasil)", which shall increase the Brazilian exports along the textile chain by various measures carried out until 2023. With an export volume of almost 120 million Euros, Brazil was the sixth most important importing country for German textile machinery manufacturers.
