The VDMA Materials Handling and Logistics Systems is a member of the "German National Committee" of the European umbrella organization for the materials handling and intralogistic industry, FEM (Fédération Européenne de la Manutention / European Federation of Materials Handling), which was founded in Paris in 1953.

European countries such as Belgium, Germany, Finland, France, Great Britain, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland are represented in the FEM by their national associations.

Objectives of the Fédération Européenne de la Manutention / European Federation of Materials Handling (FEM) Nach-oben

Both the FEM as the umbrella organization as well as its product groups focus on the following objectives:

  • Promotion of technological progress and occupational health safety in the materials handling industry,
  • harmonization of laws as well as standardization and acceptance practices at an international and European level in order to facilitate cross-border trade, along with support and consulting for authorities that deal with materials handling and storage equipment issues, particularly at a European level.

In the area of technology, recommendations, calculation principles, terminologies, and safety regulations are developed and published. Numerous FEM documents have also been adopted into national, European and international standards.
