The 4th VDMA Flash Survey on China shows that the business situation for more and more mechanical engineering companies is improving. At the same time, challenges in the competitive situation remain and entry restrictions to China are a hindrance.
Export-oriented mechanical engineering industry needs strong industrial fairs
Strong  international industrial fairs are important platforms that contribute significantly to strengthen the global competitiveness of the mechanical and plant engineering industry. The VDMA therefore supports the efforts of the German government to welcome more trade fair visitors and exhibitors to Germany again.
VDMA demands honest revision of social costs
According to press reports, social contributions are to increase above the 40 percent guarantee of the federal government. VDMA General Manager Thilo Brodtmann therefore demands a review of social spending.

Efforts for climate protection must be increased. However, the proposal for greenhouse gas reduction now presented by the EU Commission shows considerable weaknesses in European climate policy.

China's visa policy harms Europe and the People's Republic
Technical personnel must be able to travel abroad to commission or maintain machines and systems even in times of the pandemic. However, the entry regulations of important partner countries make these assignments more difficult. China has by far the most bureaucratic and complicated requirements.

In 2017, sales of German foundry equipment manufacturers recovered considerably, by 6 percent compared with the previous year. This was especially due to a rise in sales to countries outside the Eurozone, which grew by 25 percent on average compared with 2016. On average during the course of the year, orders received rose by 3 percent, starting from the strong base reached in the previous year. While there was a slight fall in orders from Germany, the positive trend in orders from the Eurozone continued.
