VDMA gathered representatives from the worlds of politics and the economy in Brussels to coincide with the start of the Brexit negotiations. Their unanimous view was that the UK’s exit from the EU would not be a success for anyone.
Despite all heterogeneity, German manufacturers of building material machinery are expecting a broadly based boost this year. Even at the end of 2016 the orders received in most subsectors had risen considerably compared with the previous year.
The German food processing and packaging machinery manufacturing companies look forward to the interpack trade fair full of confidence. “For years, our industry has shown a positive development and the German manufacturers can look back on a record year," said Richard Clemens, Managing Director of the VDMA Food Packaging and Packaging Machinery Association, at interpack 2017 in Düsseldorf.
Machine learning enables efficient control of big data and ensures that software and information technology are becoming increasingly important drivers of innovation in the machinery and equipment sector. The VDMA is therefore setting up a new "Machine Learning" working group to implement recommendations.
In 2016, the fuel cell industry in Germany achieved a turnover of around EUR 100 million from fuel cell heating devices and power supply systems. Following a lateral movement the previous year, the economic outlook of the VDMA Fuel Cells working group forecasts a growth of 90 percent for the current year based on an industrial survey. Manufacturers can be very optimistic about 2017.

Hydrogen: Much more than a hype. If you want to protect the climate and reduce CO2 emissions, you must not avoid Power-to-X technologies - the conversion of electricity into gas or liquid fuels. Mechanical engineering is ready for the step out of the lab. Politics, too?
Machines improve our lives – on a large and small scale. Whether for our health, food or the many means of transportation that we use; whether we are looking at the ground deep below the sea or from high above – we need machines and people who utilize their skills to make the world a better place to live. That is the aim of mechanical and plant engineering. Humans – Machines – Progress.
