Who we are
VDMA (Verband Deutscher Maschinen- und Anlagenbau, Mechanical Engineering Industry Association) represents more than 3,200 mostly medium-sized companies in the capital goods industry, making it the largest industry association in Europe.
Our mission statement
Four central topics form our overall concept: "Creating the corporate tomorrow", "Networked thinking, networked actions", "Technology for you and me" and "Europe and the World".
The Executive Directorate manages the association
Board of Chairmen
The VDMA General Assembly elects a President and two Vice Presidents for a period of four years. Together, they form the Board of Chairmen.
The Restricted Board debates and makes decisions on key association matters.
The mechanical engineering sector is changing. New technologies are paving the way for new value creation models, companies are starting to focus on new markets, and new competitors are surging forward. This is not the time to stand still – and what applies to mechanical engineering companies applies to VDMA as well.
Right from the outset, well-known individuals from the engineering industry have been the face of the industry and the association.
Since its inception 12 executive directors have efficiently led one of the most important engineering industry networks.
The foundation for the VDMA was laid in 1890 with the founding of the Verein Rheinisch-Westfälischer Maschinenbauanstalt. An extract from the VDMA Chronicle highlights the main milestones.
